Reconcile opening stock at product, location, lot and the business’s relevant date fields, separating held or restricted quantities from stock available to promise. Use a physical verification sample where source records are uncertain. Preserve source identifiers and have operational owners approve the stock state before finance approves the associated opening valuation.
Understand the decision
A legacy export totals cases by product but a separate sheet holds lot dates and inspection holds. Importing only the product total would lose the distinctions required for fulfilment. The migration rehearsal should reconnect those records and document any quantity whose identity or condition cannot be reliably established.
Work through the requirements
- Join quantities with lot and hold evidence
- Verify uncertain identities before loading
- Reconcile operational stock and accounting totals
| Record or decision | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Lot opening register | Combines identity location and quantity |
| Hold register | Explains stock unavailable for normal fulfilment |
| Valuation bridge | Connects approved quantities with finance |
What would a passing test show?

Watch for this failure
Do not infer missing lot dates from the migration date or replace uncertain identities with one convenient batch. A balanced inventory value cannot compensate for losing the information needed to identify the physical goods and their approved state.
Continue the evaluation
