Reconcile the starting bulk volume against packed output, remaining liquid, samples and recorded loss. Investigate the unexplained difference before adjusting stock. Packaging rejects and liquid losses should remain distinguishable because they create different replenishment decisions, and a held finished lot should not become available merely because the filling operation has ended.
Understand the decision
In a sample filling run, foam increases loss, several cans fail inspection and some liquid remains in the tank for another format. The operator records saleable cases correctly, but a simple conversion from starting litres would overstate production and hide the remaining bulk balance.
Work through the requirements
- Record the actual starting and ending bulk measures.
- Separate rejected containers from saleable packed output.
- Assign unresolved variance and release decisions to named owners.
| Record or decision | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Run reconciliation | Explain volume and unit differences. |
| Packaging rejection | Identify unusable containers and reason. |
| Release record | State which output is available. |

Watch for this failure
A fixed litres-to-cases conversion is useful for planning but cannot replace run reconciliation. If every difference becomes a general adjustment, the team loses the evidence needed to distinguish measurement error, packaging failure and actual process loss.
