Reconcile component stock by actual location and status, including partial reels, line-side material and components already consumed into assemblies. Match issued kits to open builds and distinguish expected return quantities from counted stock. The opening balance should preserve relevant lot identifiers while recording uncertainty that requires a physical count or production review.
Understand the decision
A hypothetical cutover includes unopened reels, estimated partial reels, two issued kits and boards awaiting test. Some surplus components will return to stores after the current build. The migration team must prevent those anticipated returns from appearing as available stock before anyone confirms what remains physically usable.
Work through the requirements
- Count or approve partial-reel estimates with exceptions.
- Reconcile issued kits against build progress.
- Separate expected returns from accepted opening stock.
| Record or decision | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Component snapshot | Record quantity, location and confidence. |
| Kit reconciliation | Explain issued and consumed material. |
| Open-build register | Identify assemblies awaiting completion or test. |

Watch for this failure
Importing the purchasing quantity from a reel label can substantially overstate a partly used reel. Use a documented counting basis, retain exceptions and prioritize uncertain components that constrain immediate production instead of accepting every historical quantity at face value.
