Approve the recipe and label as a coordinated release with identifiable versions and an effective production boundary. Record who validates ingredient declarations and other required information. A commercial order should reach production with the correct combination, while older packaging remains visibly controlled rather than treated as interchangeable with the new label.
Understand the decision
A hypothetical sauce recipe changes because an ingredient supplier is replaced. The packaging artwork still describes the earlier formulation. Before the next batch starts, production, purchasing and the responsible label reviewer must agree which ingredients and packaging are permitted together and what happens to existing printed stock.
Work through the requirements
- Compare formulation and label changes together.
- Approve the effective batch or production date.
- Control remaining packaging from the earlier version.
| Record or decision | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Recipe release | Identify approved ingredient requirements. |
| Label approval | Record the reviewed artwork version. |
| Effective boundary | Define which batches use each combination. |

Watch for this failure
A changed purchasing code can have consequences beyond procurement. Do not assume the existing label remains valid; connect formulation changes to the responsible review process and retain evidence of the approved recipe-and-packaging combination.
