Define the approved engineering release as a versioned event and decide how it affects purchasing, assembly and existing stock. Map stable component and machine identifiers between design tools and operational records. An integration should surface the proposed change and affected commitments, while the authorized owner decides whether it applies to an active build.
Understand the decision
In a hypothetical project, engineering changes a bracket after the original version has been ordered and partly installed. The design system now shows the new version as current. Purchasing still needs to know which machines can use the old bracket and whether the supplier order should be changed or retained.
Work through the requirements
- Map engineering revisions to component and machine references.
- Identify open purchases and builds affected by a release.
- Record the approved application of each change.
| Record or decision | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Revision event | Describe the released engineering change. |
| Impact list | Identify affected commitments and stock. |
| Application decision | State which builds adopt the revision. |
What would a passing test show?

Watch for this failure
The latest design is not automatically the instruction for every unfinished machine. Preserve the version actually built and the decision about adopting changes, particularly where purchasing commitments or completed assembly make a universal replacement impractical.
