Treat machine-cycle data as operational evidence until its meaning is agreed. A cycle count may include setup, retries or several parts per cycle. Define the conversion and approval point before using it to update production quantities, and retain an exception path for counter resets, interrupted cycles and manual adjustments.
Understand the decision
A sample lathe reports one hundred cycles, but operators used eight for setup and one cycle produced two parts on a different fixture. The integration must avoid interpreting the raw total as one hundred accepted units or overwriting the inspection-approved production count.
Work through the requirements
- Document the counter meaning for each machine.
- Separate setup and production event categories.
- Reconcile imported events with approved good output.
| Record or decision | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Machine mapping | Explain cycle-to-piece assumptions. |
| Event ledger | Retain source timestamps and identifiers. |
| Output approval | Identify accepted production quantities. |
What would a passing test show?

Watch for this failure
More machine data does not automatically improve inventory accuracy. Keep raw measurements available for investigation and restrict the event that changes stock to a clearly defined, tested business outcome with a responsible approval owner.
Continue the evaluation
