Approve a consistent quantity basis for each product and preserve the dimensions supporting any volume calculation. Count bundles and remnants according to their actual contents, condition and usable purpose. Reconcile material at different processing stages so rough stock already issued to production does not remain available alongside the finished output created from it.
Understand the decision
A hypothetical cutover includes labelled bundles, loose boards with varied lengths and offcuts retained for smaller products. Some historical quantities use estimated volume and others count pieces. The team must retain enough dimensional evidence to explain the opening total and avoid classifying every remnant as a standard full-length board.
Work through the requirements
- Define product-specific units and dimensional evidence.
- Count full bundles and mixed material separately.
- Reconcile issued stock against unfinished and completed processing.
| Record or decision | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Dimensional count | Record actual pieces and relevant sizes. |
| Condition classification | State usable purpose and processing stage. |
| Opening bridge | Explain stock movements across the cutoff. |

Watch for this failure
A bundle label may describe its original content rather than what remains at cutover. Verify opened and mixed bundles physically, retain the measurement basis and resolve uncertain high-impact balances before planners use them to commit material to immediate orders.
