Separate equipment measurements from the grade and disposition decisions that determine usable stock. Map run identifiers, units and physical bundle references, then reconcile measured output with accepted quantities. The interface should preserve raw observations and their corrections while leaving the agreed specialist or operator approval responsible for classifying material for customer use.
Understand the decision
In a hypothetical line, a scanner records dimensions as pieces pass, but inspection later downgrades some boards and a few pieces are rescanned after repositioning. Importing every observation as accepted stock would overstate quantity and quality. The business needs a controlled link between measurement, physical identity and the final classification.
Work through the requirements
- Map observations to runs and physical bundles.
- Handle rescans and corrected measurements explicitly.
- Approve grade and stock disposition separately from capture.
| Record or decision | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Measurement event | Preserve dimensions and source identity. |
| Classification result | Record accepted grade or disposition. |
| Reconciled output | State approved stock quantities by purpose. |
What would a passing test show?

Watch for this failure
Accurate dimensions do not establish that material meets the customer’s grade or condition requirement. Keep those decisions distinct in the data contract, and prove that repeated scans and later inspection changes can be reconciled without losing the original evidence.
